Izzat Ka Falooda. Calling all ‘vetti’ people.
I am sure most of you would have seen the original Lead India ad by now. For those who haven’t seen it, here is a gist of the ad: people are stuck at a traffic jam for a long time and the camera pans to show that a huge tree has fallen blocking the road ahead. A junior high-school boy sees the minister, who is also stuck with them, leave his car, jump over the tree and take the car on the other side, instead helping them get out of this sticky situation, from his school bus. The boy tries to push the tree himself. People see this, get inspired and join this lil’ leader. The rain starts to pour heavily and an ARR number ‘tum chalo tho Hindustan chale’ plays in the background. They all finally succeed in pushing the tree and clearing the road. And the sunlight cuts thro’ the cloud and shines over them {Barathiraja types symbolic representation}.
Gosh! I hate these feel good ending ads, but that isn’t going to stop me from taking part in L.I.V.E contest by TOI. If they want me to make a pretentious ad like that, then I will gladly do it… just to feel good.
Everything is going to be the same. The traffic jam, the boy, the people, the rain, then sun etc. with a small twist in it. Instead of the tree we are planning to use an electric pole for two reasons a) it is quite tough to secure a chopped tree without being targeted by environmental activists who are very hungry for a cause after the Chipko movement and b) there aren’t as many trees as electric poles in Chennai.
Scene:
{I am not going to go into details here and am going to be as cryptic as possible, because I just saw a show in NDTV called ‘We The People – The brave new world of blogging’ where a man in the audience claimed that blogging is no longer personal, it is ones thoughts/opinions published over a global medium and hence it is public. What a scary thought}
Traffic jam and people are seated in their vehicles impatient and frustrated by the traffic police’s incompetency. The camera pans out to show an electric pole lying on the road blocking the road. The minister leaves in a car arranged for him on the other side of the electric pole.
A small boy in his school uniform watches this from the car he is sitting in (we can’t get a school bus) and jumps out. He remembers the Lead India original video (A bubble pops out from his head (animation) and the Lead India original video plays in it.) where a kid like him leads all these distressed commuters by pushing the tree.
He marches towards the electric pole and pushes it. It doesn’t move. But people are inspired and motivated by his action and they join him. To add the symbolic effect, the rain now starts to pour. Everybody is getting wet and yet they don’t give up and they all push the electric pole.
The camera pans towards a shop nearby where a hand of a small kid is seen handing a ten rupee note to the shopkeeper and demanding a five star. A mass/loud cry is heard. The snapped wire from the electric pole had touched the water on the road, due to lack of drainage system (in Chennai) for the rain water to flow, and they all get a 440 V electric shock and die on the spot. {The background music now is ‘tum murro tho Hindustan marre’}
Then the sunlight cuts thro’ the clouds and shines over their dead bodies, and the camera pans to the left, where the boy is seen sitting happily eating his five-star… after accomplishing the mission to reduce population of India, by leading people to death.
If you are interested in working with us please do let me know. We need art directors, a props team, a music team, a school kid (if you have a son who can act), a lot of actors, script writers, story board artists, people with cars and bikes and people who are willing to play dead. So just drop me a comment or email me at sagaro [at] gmail [dot] com ASAP.
Talking about izzat ka falooda and ads, check this brilliant ad for Keystone beer [29 seconds, buffers in 20 seconds = time required to make that comment

@Vetti:
It will be in the weekend mostly. And even if it is not, we will be shooting at noon and am sure you can bunk one day to be a part of this amazing video.
That said, you can also help us in other ways. Help us with props, give us ideas, help us with music et la.
I think Velachery will be the place where we will mostly shoot the ad. We need a good road which is not busy at noon.
